Volunteer Wifi Setup

[April 27th 2019]

Recently, I volunteered to be part of the team to set up the wifi network for a local conference. I had a great time, but it was certainly stressful with several last minute changes!

The venue ultimately ended up being changed, so the original network diagram was scrapped. That said, it wasn’t wasted effort given that our group was able to help another con in the same original venue with their wifi set-up. We hit some hiccups, and packing up to relocate the equipment and personnel to a new venue took quite a bit of time.

At the new venue, we were able to get up and running pretty quickly once we sorted out which spaces we were going to be using and which were for other business. From my perspective, the last minute changes were stressful but the whole experience drove home the importance of flexibility and adaptability. Setting up the thick and thin access points was a breeze!
